Bits and Bobbins: Looking At The Strand Coat Pattern

tote

  • I finally finished attaching the leather strap to my red tote bag. I’ll give more details in an upcoming post.
  • I also finished my Pilvi coat in the cotton velvet. I’ll have more about that on Saturday.
  • I bought myself some denim check to make the Merchant & Mills Strand coat pattern.

  • I received the Strand pattern, and have read through it. What a mess! Merchant & Mills are all about the pretty graphics yet neglect to make sense. It’s impossible to follow the order of steps on the instructions. I feel sorry for the sewer who needs the instructions. When I make the coat I’ll give some information to clarify.
  • As someone who has seen too many aged tattoos, I’m not convinced by them. But I can get behind these gold temporaries. I do think they look especially nice on darker or tanned skin.

  • I love a graphic bag trend. I would have guessed this picture below was Miyake not McCartney. Hum? My next bag will be boldly geometric. Maybe my next coat too.

  • This week hurt! I have been thinking about Prince constantly. Oh to have just a gram of his talent, passion or self-confidence! Much too soon!

  1. Your coat looks the epitome of spring with your bag! Can we see a shot from the front? Am crazy sad about Prince too. We used to see him around town in the most unlikely places because he lived here for awhile. He was tiny- like a bird in heels. Bowie was for thinking but The Purple Unicorn was for getting down…

    1. Purple tears. I would rather have had a real world spotting of Prince than Bowie. I saw him in concert on the night before my wedding but that’s it.

  2. How perfect are that coat and bag together! Looking forward to your thoughts on the pilvi, it’s on my to-make list.
